Conference split screens - scenographing "Ivanka" 

Day 27. The Critical Costume 2018 conference has begun. Already from the beginning I am enjoying the presentations. Viveka Kjellmer, my colleague  from Sweden is sitting next to me: it is indeed good to be two at a conference. When sitting in the auditorium, I often prefer to percieve, see, hear, listan, feel, reflect, and not take too many notes. But when Rachel Velody talkes about "Split Screen: Ivanka and the projection of deathliness made fresch" I nevertheless note a few things on piece of paper, already containing another text (oddly an invite to a symposium on Uncomfortable Heritages). Velody talks about an uncanny global fenomenon, Ivanka Trump and her costumed performances in public space and media. I have noted "...a red carpet ingenue. Disciplined made soft. Woman as mute. Ultra white, commodified body. Silenced through soft disciplining of flesh...". A few words to help me remember the ways in which, through visual and multimedia juxtaposition, a critical scenographic voice emerges, in space, words, bodies, the spaces in-between...the pauses and new encounters, the cups of coffée...More on the Critical Costume 2018 here:
